Understanding theranostics
Theranostics uses the same molecular target for both diagnosis and treatment. A scan shows whether a disease carries the target, and a matched radionuclide therapy then acts on it. Treatment is planned around your own scan findings.

A PET-CT scan shows whether the disease carries the target the therapy is designed to act on.
A matched radionuclide therapy delivers treatment directly to the diseased tissue, and dosimetry can be used to review it.
Your doctor will advise whether theranostics is appropriate for you.

Your Visit, Step by Step
How treatment is planned, given and followed up.
Your reports and scans are reviewed with your treating team.
A scan shows whether targeted therapy is suitable for you.
Treatment is planned around your scan, then given under supervision.
Post-therapy imaging and tests review your response.

The exact process depends on your condition and the therapy planned.
Before Your Visit
Keep relevant records available.
Tell the team about the medicines you take.
Let the team know before your appointment.
You and your family will be told what precautions apply, and for how long.

After therapy you will be given written precautions for you and your family. Contact the team if you are unsure about any of them.

For Referring Clinicians
A short guide for referring doctors.
Each patient is evaluated before treatment, including review of reports and diagnostic imaging, to confirm suitability and plan therapy.
Radioiodine (¹³¹I) therapy, ¹⁷⁷Lu-DOTATATE PRRT, ¹⁷⁷Lu-PSMA and ²²⁵Ac-PSMA therapy, ¹⁷⁷Lu-FAPI, ¹³¹I-MIBG, TARE, bone-pain palliation and radiosynovectomy, under applicable regulatory guidelines and institutional protocols.
Post-therapy imaging and quantitative SPECT-CT dosimetry support individualised treatment and response assessment.
Longitudinal follow-up and multidisciplinary coordination with the referring and treating team.

FAQs
Common questions about theranostics and radionuclide therapy.
Theranostics pairs diagnostic imaging with targeted radionuclide therapy using the same molecular target, so treatment is planned around what the scan shows.
It is considered for selected conditions, such as neuroendocrine tumours, prostate cancer and thyroid disease, where a scan shows the disease can be treated through the same target. Your doctor will advise whether it suits you.
Dosimetry uses quantitative imaging after therapy to estimate how much radiation reaches the disease and normal organs, helping to individualise and review treatment.
Yes. You will be given clear written instructions on precautions for you and your family after treatment.
This depends on the therapy. The team will tell you in advance whether any stay is needed.
