Selected tumours
FAPI and MIBG therapies may be considered for selected tumours that show uptake on a suitable scan.

About Targeted Therapies
Radionuclide therapy works by delivering radiation to a specific target, such as a tumour, a bone metastasis or an inflamed joint. The choice of therapy depends on the condition, the target and your overall health.

¹⁷⁷Lu-FAPI and ¹³¹I-MIBG target specific tumour features, and transarterial radioembolisation (TARE) delivers radiation to liver tumours through their blood supply.
Bone pain palliation with ⁸⁹Sr or ¹⁵³Sm and radiosynovectomy with ⁹⁰Y help relieve pain in selected patients.
Each therapy is considered only after clinical evaluation, and some are offered under approved institutional protocols.

When It May Help
Your doctor recommends treatment based on your diagnosis and clinical needs.

FAPI and MIBG therapies may be considered for selected tumours that show uptake on a suitable scan.
TARE may be considered in selected patients, after planning scans assess liver blood supply and lung shunting.
Bone pain palliation may help relieve pain in selected patients.
Radiosynovectomy may be considered for selected joint conditions.

Your Visit, Step by Step
How your targeted radionuclide therapy is planned, given and followed up.
The team reviews your reports, history and treatment so far.
A scan may be needed to confirm that the therapy is suitable.
The treatment is planned and given, with safety guidance for afterwards.
Your response is reviewed and next steps are shared with your doctor.
The exact process depends on your condition and the therapy planned.
Before Your Visit
Bring histology, previous scans, blood reports and any records of earlier treatment.
Some therapies need a planning scan or procedure first, such as a diagnostic scan or a MAA study for TARE. The team will explain what applies.
Blood tests are reviewed before therapy. Tell the team about all medicines and do not change any on your own.
Precautions after treatment depend on the therapy used. The team will explain them in advance.
Let the team know before your appointment.

Preparation varies by therapy and by patient. Contact the team if you are unsure about any instruction.

For Referring Clinicians
A short guide for referring doctors.
The diagnosis, histology, treatment history, recent blood reports and previous imaging, so suitability can be assessed.
Therapy is considered only after a clinical review and, where needed, a diagnostic scan to confirm that it is appropriate.
Treatment is planned with the referring team, and follow-up findings are shared with you.
Call or write before referring if you would like to discuss suitability or timing.

Some therapies are considered only within institutional protocols that set out who may be treated and how. The team will explain whether one applies to you.
For a period after treatment your body will contain some radioactivity, so you will be given written guidance, particularly about close contact with children and pregnant women. The team will explain what applies to you.
